increase funding from new sources

The University of Utah’s research portfolio has traditionally been heavily concentrated in single investigator grants and NIH funding. While these have fueled important discoveries, the landscape of research funding and national priorities is shifting rapidly. To continue to thrive, fuel economic growth, and ensure long-term institutional resilience, we must evolve.

Looking forward, we will strategically expand our research portfolio. We will align with emerging priorities in health, technology, and society while also increasing engagement with industry, philanthropic, and state-backed funding sources to create a more resilient and sustainable research enterprise. Through targeted initiatives and national advocacy, we will position the University of Utah to thrive in an increasingly competitive research landscape.
