We stand at a crossroads, locally, nationally, and globally. The pace of change is accelerating. Our competitors are gaining ground. And the stakes for research, across science, technology, health, and society, have never been higher. This moment demands more than excellence. It demands intention. Direction. Leadership. This strategy is our way forward.

It doesn’t replace the strengths that have brought us here. It builds on them. It amplifies the expertise in our institutes and centers, the discoveries already changing lives, and the partnerships that anchor our impact across the state and nation.

At the same time, it recognizes a deeper truth: that research is not just about what we build or discover, but about how we engage with each other, through dialogue that reduces division and renews our shared sense of humanity.

Where do we want to be in 20 years?

That future will be decided in the next five.
